Venezuelans Abroad – 30 Aug 2014 Midweek Round-up (France)

Another change in format, regular readers will be delighted to learn. It will hopefully be quicker and more readable if the updates on Venezuela’s overseas stars are presented in shorter articles that are categorised according to the countries that the players play in. Thus, without further ado, let’s crack on with the relevant games played in France since the last update.

Coupe de la Ligue – Second Round

Troyes 1-4 Ajaccio

Ajaccio entered the Second Round of the Coupe de la Ligue and, following a goalscoring blitz of four goals in 13 second-half minutes, impressively defeated a strong Troyes side 4-1 away from home. This win actually marked Ajaccio’s third consecutive victory, a feat that they had not achieved since over four-and-a-half years ago when, during the period of 12 December 2009 to 19 January 2010, they actually won six games in a row. Unfortunately however, Grenddy Perozo was not entirely able to share his team-mates’ joy as he went off injured after 36 minutes.

Ligue 2

Laval 0-0 Ajaccio

Consequently, Perozo did not play in Friday night’s 0-0 league draw, though will have surely been pleased to see his team-mates keep their third consecutive clean sheet in Ligue 2, something the side had not achieved since the April/May run-in of their promotion-winning season 2010-11. Ajaccio are currently fourth after five games with eight points.

Regarding Perozo’s injury, it is not believed to be serious and the man himself has said that he should be back in training within a few days from now and his place in the Venezuelan squad for the upcoming friendlies in Asia has not been affected.
